Sincerely, I invite you to come and see the Emerald Lake which was formed after melting snow and precipitation and has a depth of 10 meters. Near it is the extinct volcano, in an area with poorer vegetation. Geologists say the place is similar to the volcano Etna, where you can find the same types of rocks and reddish color, which makes the place a special one worth visiting.
Emerald Lake was formed inside the former Brazi quarry, where basalt rocks were once mined.
The locals say that those who worked on the old quarry would have dug up to the water table and thus the basin would have been filled with water.
However, on the information plate on the shore of the lake, it is written that it would have formed as a result of the accumulated precipitation, and 80% of the water volume would have been the same for 20 years.
The basalt columns here are over a million and a half years old, being the testimony of volcanic activities in the area, in the Persian Mountains of the Eastern Carpathians. The name Emerald Lake seems to come from the color of the water.
The basalt columns are the result of lava flows and have a height of 12-15 meters. They have a hexagonal shape, beautifully carved by mother nature, and climbing them is dangerous and strictly forbidden.
