With pleasure, I invite you to come and see Lake Siutghiol which is separated from the sea by a coastal cordon, from where Mamaia beach was born.
The freshwater lake near Mamaia resort was originally known as Ovidiu Lake. In 1802, "Monitorul" and some magazines in Paris, recording news from Dobrogea, in connection with archaeological excavations near the mouth of the Danube, where a tomb from the Roman era was found, wrote that these lands are known since time as Laculi Ovidii.
In the western part of the lake, towards the localities of Palazu Mare and Caragea, there is a small island formed by Cretaceous deposits. In the southern part of Siutghiol is Tabacaria Lake. Both lakes contain freshwater, which flows into the sea in the vicinity of the oceanographic research institute, its piezometric level being 2.50 m above that of the Black Sea. Both on the western edge and on the bottom of the lake, the presence of numerous freshwater springs that feed the lake is known.
Among these lakes are estuaries, located on the Romanian coast, is Lake Siutghiol, fed by the groundwater of Dobrogea, the closest lake in the world to a sea or ocean. "The land of Dobrogea, says the great geographer G. Vâlsan, bears in itself so many ancient ruins that it has acquired the property of preserving, through all its transformations, traditions that reach several centuries of antiquity, and sometimes go back to antiquity."
